Simac decided to refresh their job-matrix.
So (almost) same job, new function name..
I am now more involved in guiding the management processes and building and maintaining standards rather than specials, besides "just" the technical part of the job.

I became part of the ACT (Azure Competence Team), providing solutions on the Azure platform for multiple customers.
Working mainly with IaC (Terraform, Bicep, ARM) and scripting (Powershell, Python) to get the most out of automation.

Mainly working on projects for Jumbo Supermarkten BV which
include:
• Migrating the On-Premises Exchange 2010/2013 environment to
Office 365.
• Working on a large project to help Jumbo to Utilize the
Microsoft Azure Cloud platform in an efficient way.
• Performing an active directory migration for all Jumbo
Supermarkets and LaPlace Restaurants to simplify things by
removing a child domain.
• Transferring the Silver and Bronze classified applications
from the Simac Cloud version 1.0 which is being retired to the
Azure public cloud.
Besides that picking up tasks/changes and projects for more
and more different Simac customers to expand my knowledge on
different industries.

As since first walking into the building there was a mutual
click, Simac offered me a full-time employment which I gladly
accepted.
I continued to be responsible for maintaining the Wintel
environment including:
• Windows 2003/2008/2012 servers (+- 400 servers).
• Citrix Presentation server 4.5 environment (+- 15
servers).
• Citrix XenApp 7.6 environment (+- 85 servers).
• Exchange 2010 environment (+- 8 servers) including
Enterprise Vault for mail archiving.
• VMWare ESX 5/6 environment (+- 25 servers).
Mainly working on projects in a 10-person team, but also:
• Supporting both SLA, changes and working on improving
automation and processes for the customer.
• Cleaning up legacy systems from Super de Boer, importing
resources from C1000 and onboarding the restaurants and
headquarters from LaPlace which where all acquired by Jumbo
Supermarkten.
Large achievements contain migrating all Stores (582+) from
Citrix Presentation Server 4.5 on Server 2003 hosted on ESX5
to XenApp 7.6 running Windows Server 2012 R2 hosted on
vSphere6/vSan and onboarding the LaPlace restaurants onto the
same environment from scratch.
Also participated in a large project to migrate all compute
resources from the Jumbo hosted datacenters to the Simac
cloud, where I am mainly focussing on the e-mail environment
that will be migrated to Office 365.

As the work for Amgen decreased, I switched secondment company
again, where I was working for multiple clients.

Even though Simac supports multiple customers via several
teams, I was assigned as systems engineer for Jumbo
Supermarkten, which due to the size had a dedicated team.
Oct 2011 - Sep 2012 : Gemeente BoZ (Bergen op Zoom)
Working in a small team I managed a wide scope of systems,
including, but not limited to:
• VMWare, containing the various Windows, Citrix and Linux
systems.
• NetApp, containing the storage for both the VM's and the
user-data.
Additionaly I was responsible for:
• Backup and restore of above mentioned systems.
• 2nd/3rd line support for the infrastructure and basic set of
applications.
• Various scripting tasks for environment maintenance.

Amgen decided to out-source part of IT to IBM.
So same job, different employer..
Due to the outsourcing some additional tasks were added:
• Participate in several datacenter migrations from Amgen to
IBM.
• Sharing knowledge of processes and procedures with the IBM
service desk in India.

After some time Amgen decided to offer me a full-time
contract.
I kept doing most of the same tasks as before, but now I also
became responsible for:
• Scripting various automated processes for managing the email
and Active Directory environment.
• Executing a migration from Windows NT 4.0 domains to Active
Directory 2003.
• Management of Windows 2000 Professional/Windows XP
Professional automated installations for endpoints.

An old highschoolfriend introduced me to Syntegra and I
switched secondment company, where I was working for multiple
clients.
Oct 2004 - Dec 2006 : Amgen Europe BV (Breda)
As team member of the ELC (European Logistic Center) I was
providing services to various European Amgen sites.
This included:
• Administration of Windows servers (Windows
2000/2003/2008).
• Administration of VMware servers.
• Administration and migration of an Exchange 5.5 to Exchange
2007 environment.
• Planning and executing a datacenter redesign.
• Various scripting tasks for environment maintenance.
• Creation of documentation and procedures for the servicedesk
and 2nd line support teams.
Aug 2004 - Sep 2004 : Stichting Cascade / TSU
(Utrecht)
Again I was seconded as temporary replacement for some
colleagues.
Besides proving 1st/2nd line (phone) support for various
locations in Utrecht, I was also responsible for the
coördination and execution of a project where the endpoints
were replaced with thin clients.
Jun 2004 - Jul 2004 : Philip Morris (Bergen op Zoom)
Due to the holiday period I was seconded to Philip Morris as
temporary replacement for some colleagues.
I mainly provided 1st/2nd line support for the Philip Morris
users in Bergen op Zoom, either by phone or by a visit on the
site itself.
Also replacing some hardware like printers, desktops and
laptops was part of the tasks performed.
Oct 2003 - May 2004 : FCI Connect (Den Bosch/Mechelen
(BE))
• Creating and distributing the Windows 2000 Pro endpoint
images.
• Managing the Windows NT4.0 and Windows 2000 server
environment.
• Managing an MS Exchange 5.5 environment.
• Providing 1st/2nd/3rd line support for various international
sites.
Apr 2001 - Sep 2003 : De Lage Landen (Eindhoven)
• Selecting and qualifying new endpoint hardware for use with
Windows NT4.0.
• Migrating the legacy script-based packaging methods to a
mote professional tool called Wise Packge studio.
• Distributing software with CA Software Delivery to endpoints
in the De Lage Landen environment.
• Providing 2nd/3rd line support.

Continuing my internship being seconded as a field service
employee at GE Plastics, but my responsibilities quickly
extended to:
• Creation of images for workstations.
• Creation of documentation and procedures for the
servicedesk.
• Administration of MS SMS version 1.2 and the upgrade to SMS
2.0.
• Packaging of OTS software for distribution with MS SMS.
• Participating in a project to update the Endpoint OS from
Windows 95 to Windows 2000.

Feb 1998 - Jun 1998
My second internship after another year of education.
Mainly working on the IT department, where I learned how to
work in a corporate environment.
I was assisting in the administration of the order process for
the endpoints on the site in Bergen op Zoom.
As a bonus I also got introduced to the company that was
actually deploying the endpoints, which was ICL.
So instead of just paperwork I also drove around the plant
with laptops, desktops, monitors and printers in the back of a
car to deliver them to the users.

Sep 1996 - Dec 1996
My first job in IT, where I learned the basics of IT in real
life.
I was working in a sole proprietorship in Zevenbergen, where I
was helping customers with their IT problems both in the shop
and with software/hardware repairs in the back.
I also learned how to build a PC from scratch and
installing/configuring the OS, which was a great
experience.
When the owner was on a customer visit, I was responsible for
the day-to-day bussines of the selling part of the shop and
it's repairs.

As a result of my studies in electrical engineering, I have
worked for a considerable time as an electrician and panel
builder within the company owned by my uncle and his son.
The tasks were mainly performed on weekends and evenings in
addition to my work as an IT specialist.
